Ruth, the White Dragon

Description

This is supposed to be Ruth from Anne McCaffery's Dragonriders of Pern series. He too is made from Sculpy-brand polymer clay.

I had some difficulty with his wings. I cured Ruth wingless, and then tried to attatch them to him afterwards. I thought it would keep me from squishing what I'd already made. However, my judgement was flawed. I'd forgotten that attatching cured clay to uncured clay is nigh impossible, unless you completely wrap around the cured part. And I couldn't really do that. I also made the mistake of making the wings ridiculously huge; what you see here is a trimmed version of them. After two failed bakings, my mom and I decided any more would burn him, so we tried superglue. That actually dissolved the clay a bit...O_o We finally decided on hot glue. If I'd refrigerated him instead of baking him, I could have used wires to reinforce the wings instead...needless to say, I learned from my mistake...

He's made out of bulk white sculpy with glow-in-the-dark accents, and fabric paint eyes. However, all the baking overcooked the glow-in-the-dark so it doesn't glow nearly as well as it should. Ah well.

I'm surprised his wings have held up this long; they're really thin...

I'm thinking of working on a large dragon sculpture but I'm not sure what to do with the wings. What do you mean by refrigerating him?
