I don't know why it took me so long to get around to doing this. I've had this picture for months!
Anyway...
I took this picture on my Europe trip. This is in a piazza in Rome across from the Pantheon; they were so pretty I couldn't resist taking a picture of them.
I had to do some major cropping; I not only had to make it into a widescreen format for my monster monitor, but there was a dark spot on the left and a washed out area on the right, both of which were irreprable. Then I went slightly crazy with the colors, so they're a bit brighter and more on the red side than they were in the original photo.
I'll be submitting a monochrome version in my scraps if this is too loud for your tastes.
1680 by 1050, adjustments made in Photoshop SpaceMonkey.
I like it in color better, just b/c the flowers are so intense

Yeah, me too. That's why it's this version in my wallpaper rotation, not the monochrome.

Fixing photos uses some of the same principles as coloring; most importantly, good photo fixing uses selections.
To adjust color or contrast or the like on the whole image, go to Image --> Adjustments and select a function that suits what you need to do. Generally, I use the functions "Levels", "Color Balance", and "Hue and Saturation" the most. (On this image, I used only levels and Hue/saturation.) These work great for improving crappy scans, too.
If you have an unbalanced image, i.e. one that has a washed out foreground and a dark background, select one of the areas and then do your adjustment. Vioala! The adjustment only will affect the selection. Then select --> inverse, usually, and fix the other section as needed. Some clone tool usage may be necessary to make things blend properly, but that's pretty much the gist of it.
Of couse, that works for fixing crappy lighting and the rest. My mom, on the other hand, does SERIOUS photo fixing, including cleaning of old, dirty images, red-eye elimation, tooth whitening, and blemish removal. I don't understand how to do any of THAT. XD

Rome and Vienna were my favorite cities on our trip. Rome's such a quirky city; you've got to love a place where ancient monuments just sit in a tiny square tucked away in a random part of the city.

There's a tool specifically for red eye? I think my mom just uses the airbrush and clone tools for that stuff!

I have written a quick plotline for a new story (inspired by, but not a remake of, the Goodbye Hotel story that I never finished), and I have decided to completely re-write a story Justin and I wrote a long time ago. I lost the origional so, it will be whatever I remember mixed in with all new material. If I post that I'll give him writing credits. The second one is really short and is about halfway done.

Daily Literature Deviations is a group that is dedicated to bringing literature to the forefront of the deviantArt community. We attempt to accomplish this by daily featuring Literature artists from around the community that deserve the recognition, but are not getting it.
Each day we will feature 10 deviations from the Literature categories in a News Article. In order to support the artists that we feature, we ask that you the news article as well as check out the individual pieces. We understand that each day you may not be able to check out each and every one of the pieces, everyone has their own things going on. We just ask that you make an attempt to help support the growing Literature community.
When it comes to community spirit, `Rushy is a shining example. From participating in devmeets, to providing positive encouragement to other artists, `Rushy can always be found demonstrating what it really takes to be a true deviant. It's without any hesitation that we are delighted to award the Deviousness Award for July 2009 to `RushyRead More
